AP Exam Reflection

After taking the AP test I can honestly say, it was nothing like i expected. I didn’t think i’d be sitting in a gym with hundreds of other stressed out students and 4-5 proctors annoyingly strolling up and down the aisles for 5 hours. The breaks were way too long and one specific proctor who clearly took her job way too seriously only added to the already present anxiety. In regards to the content of the exam, I found the rhetorical analysis to be the easiest portion. The synthesis essay was extremely time consuming and left me with a limited amount of time to work on the other essays. I had only 20 minutes to spew out whatever argument I could for the argumentative essay, so I’m not really expecting too high of a grade for that. If I could do it all over again, I would manage my time better and study chairs prior to the exam day. I’m still hoping for a 5 though. College board needs to park their carcasses.

Satire Project Reflection

The topic for my group’s satire project was educational profiling. Educational profiling, in the context of our project, is the discrimination of students based solely on the courses they take in school. This topic is important to me because I have seen first hand the impact it has on students. The pressure put on those in various classes leads to insecurity and tension. This problems exists today due to the increased competitiveness within schools and the desire to be a top student. In regards to teachers, there is also that sense of competitiveness when wanting to be a superior school.         Additionally, schools similar to ours that contain a variety of different levels of learning can be prone to profiling such as this. It is clearly a result of not enough interaction with those different than us. When you step into an AP or honors class you are immediately told that you are smarter than those not enrolled in those classes. Similarly, those not enrolled in AP or honor

Rhetorical Analysis Essay for "Shame" by Dick Gregory

Writer, activist, and comedian, Dick Gregory, in his narrative, “Shame,” recounts a personal story of social class discrimination and shame. Gregory’s purpose is to reflect on a lesson of how discrimination can be experienced in places such as school.. Gregory achieves his purpose by employing the rhetorical devices repetition, resentful tone, and imagery. Dick Gregory uses repetition throughout his narrative to convey his message of shame. In paragraph 5, he illustrates a negative and resentful scene by continuously stating the things e was pregnant with. He stated that he was “pregnant with poverty” and “no daddy in the next room,” to show the severity of his social class situation. Repetition was used in this narrative to emphasize the hardships he faced, each having a negative effect on him. He uses the word pregnant to explain these hardships, things he had to deal with but can’t do anything about them. He couldn’t be clean, buy new shoes, or have better living

My Speech

Subject: Standardized Testing Audience: School Board, High School Students Purpose: To educate and promote change Speaker: Hannah Kihulo, a high school student         Ladies and gentlemen, throughout my years of high school I have seen first-hand the stress that comes with standardized testing, and i'm sure everyone in this room has experienced it at one point. As a high school student, standardized testing does not fully reflect the information we have learned. Many students with versatile talents and skills cannot show them through this method. In addition, students often feel insecure when taking standardized tests because it causes them to compare themselves to their peers.           If we look at the countries in the world that are at the top in education, such as Finland, it is clear that their methods our extremely different than ours. However, they are still more successful. The students in Finland do not have any standardized tests, or any tests with multiple choic
